After configuring the printer driver, you must configure the windows machine into which the receipt printers is plugged in the following ways to ensure that it functions correctly with Eclipse.
You must go through the following steps to set up the receipt printer:
Share the Receipt Printer - This allows the rest of the network to recognize the receipt printer for printing.
Create the LPT1 Command - Point the LPT1 port to the USB port where the printer is plugged in.
Assign the Printer Permanently - This ensures that when users log in, they have access to the printer through the specific workstation.
Set up your Cash Drawer - This is optional depending on your equipment setup. See the bottom of this page for more information.
Step 1: Share the Receipt Printer
From the Start menu, select Devices and Printers.
Right-click on the Point of Sale printer and select Printer Properties.
Click the Sharing tab and select Share this Printer.
In lowercase type pos and click OK.
Step 2: Create LPT1 Command
Copy the following text into notepad: NET USE LPT1: \\machineName\sharedPrinterName /PERSISTENT:YES
Change the machineName in the above statement to YOUR machine name:
From the Start menu, right-click on Computer and select Properties.
In the Computer Name field, copy the full name and replace "machineName" in the above statement in Notepad.
In the statement above in Notepad, replace sharedPrinterName with the name you used in Step 4 above. In this instance, use pos.
Copy the new NET USE statement with your personalized information from Notepad.
From the Start menu, type cmd.
Run the command prompt as an administrator.
At the c:\ prompt, right-click and paste the NET USE command to point the LPT1 to the USB drive for the current Windows session.
Step 3: Assign the Printer Permanently
From the Start menu, scroll to the Startup folder and click All Programs.
Right-click on the Startup folder, and select Explore All Users.
Right-click and select New>Text Document.
Open the new Text file.
Copy the NET USE command you created into the text document.
Save your file as "printer.bat"including the quotation marks.
Click Save.
The .bat file displays in the folder and will be used each time Windows starts for any user on this Windows machine.
Eclipse supports both Ithaca and Star/Epson cash drawer machines. Use the manufacturer's instructions to plug in the machine after you have setup your receipt form and printer drivers. Cables should be labeled for attachment.
